REVORA Titanium - A Collection of Design Language

REVORA Titanium - A Collection of Design Language

Hard to believe it has been 10 years of Luftverk. What started out as a titanium only passion project in my parents basement has grown significantly through product releases of various materials. Last few years have been a challenge creatively to draw up more interesting designs that are worthy of a titanium flagship release.

As yoyo designs gets more and more complicated with trends of multi-material exploration, I have been much harder on myself on designing single material yoyos specifically ones that stand out without the addition of caps or plastic rings. Maybe just a challenge to myself but I have a core belief that there is something special about a singular material yoyo.

This was the ethos of the REVORA - the newest flagship from Luftverk. The first few renditions of this yoyo looked something much more boring and typical. Perhaps depending too much on minimalism. As it progressed though, It started to come together - taking inspiration from other designs like the Augie Fash EXOS, Plastic Fulvia and the hub engraving from the CLYW Alipine.

The standout feature is this reverse rake double ring design. Taken from the EXOS but much more agressive, creating a "Nested Cup" design. Back is our classic engineering engraving celebrating Luftverk's 10 years of progression.

The profile is based on the original Evora from 10 years ago, but wider and more aggressive. But don't let the specs fool you, due to the more friendly soft H profile, it doesn't feel as wide as you think in the hand. This level of aggression has never been attempted by any other Luftverk yoyo, so it was definitely fun to develop a flagship around something a bit more aggressive. On string as well - the added weight can be felt and really feels more solid than some of the past floatier releases. The aesthetics does match how you would imagine it would play especially due to the added mid-weight.

A newly developed finish that utilizes a soda blast allows for the choice for those who prefer a more grind friendly finish. The hub area has been masked to provide protection from string cutting as well. This finish does feel a bit different than your typical bead blasted anodized yoyo. And because it is titanium the finish will take a bit longer to break in and generally remain more consistent than something like aluminum.

Many of these seemingly incremental changes and design features are a cumulation of all the years of releasing designs and sharing DNA from a lot of the past yoyo releases. It is always fun to have such a rich history of past yoyos to pull design language from and mix and match different ideas from the past 10 years of yoyo design. As I get busier and busier with other ventures in life I do think yoyo releases will happen only when inspiration strikes and this is an example of one of those times.

Triple Zero 2024 - D Bearing & Life Updates

by Jeffrey Pang December 09, 2024

It has been a year an a half living in Osaka, crazy how time flies. I remember releasing the Plastic Fulvia just before leaving Toronto, a product that I could argue changed the trajectory of everything. At that moment, Luftverk grew exponentially, with the support of retailers around the world. At that moment, I developed so many behind the scenes processes for management that it became much more of a corporate job then a creative one. Huge projects like Cheatcode, and the CLYW collaboration definitely had its creative sides dont get me wrong, but the addition of moving to a foreign city, learning a new language, pursuing motorsports and delegating tasks behind the scenes with razor sharp margins meant for a lot of it I was on the brink of burnout. I questioned if I even still liked doing yoyo stuff at all, or if it was just to keep food on the table.

Plastic 000 & Fulvia - 2024 Update

Crazy to think it has been 2 years since the original release of the Plastic Fulvia and Plastic 000. Both models as of now are pretty much sold out everywhere, and I knew it was about time to update both with a small batch of new colors as well as fix a few small issues with the first designs. I appreciate everyone who has reached out anticipating a restock of these - as the manufacturing process is very timely for sure so restocks can't happen as quick as I'd like.

AKURA TI-7068 - A Hollow Ring Yoyo

by Jeffrey Pang September 25, 2024

In January, I released the AKURA MG, a yoyo made from Magnesium. This material has a very low density and I talked about how it performs more like a plastic than anything else. But what made that yoyo really special is the aesthetic. I loved the lines on that yoyo. The proportions with the chunky rims were just perfect. One of the biggest aesthetic challenges though were that after the ceramic coating the lines were quite subtle which hid the design.
